lax

1209041shop33pNo major shopping for me.  At least not yet.  I’d like to say I’m waiting for the sales.. waiting for the sales racks to bloom.  But I am not.  No, I am just too lax to frankly do any arm butting, shirt grabbing, line cutting moves.  It’s way too early for me to take my Uggs all out in the middle of things.  But I did just get a Brighton catalogue today.. by post.  So maybe I just might change my mind.

So Super Ugly

The Good, the Bad, and the Super Ugly .. Part 3

Okay so this is where it gets super ugly.

... Back on that second day of mad shopping,
...I decide to go to 1 more bookstore to see if there was anything I missed.
...And sure enough there was.

HTML Complete and Creativity for Graphic Designers

Two of my favorite subjects... somewhere up there with shopping.

Why is this so super ugly? Cause when you add it all up (and believe me I did) I should have displayed 10 times more restraint. And I am embarrassed to say that I didn't.

So along with my public embarrassment, I now own more html books than I could ever hope for, pottery barn reading pleasure, a floral parasol, two hats, one matching scarf, and some desperately needed creativity... So I can recapture my own creative energy that I spent looking at some one else's creations hanging on racks and sitting on shelves staring back at me with open arms.

... And all I can think, if I am indeed at this point capable of thinking
... is
... Maybe I should' a bought a brain to go with them books.

Bad Girl

The Good, the Bad, and the Super Ugly .. Part 2

Copyright 2004 by sketchblogs.com All Rights ReservedWhen I become obsessed there's no stopping me. And the latest recipient of my unrequited passion is a little fella named Html. So when I went shopping I knew exactly what I was going to buy... an html book. The key word here is "an" because it is a singular, not a plural. So why then did I end up with some?

First off, I stumbled on HTML in 10 Simple Steps or Less... which offered easy to understand technical information and was just what I was looking for. Then my eyes started wandering around the aisles, the shelves, the books . They landed on Teach Yourself Visually: The Fast and Easy Way to Learn HTML ... and visual is the way I do things. For example, when putting something together, I rarely read the directions. I just look at the box and go from there. So I had to have this one too.

Next... the discount table where I saw html's cousin XML for less than ten. I got that one too. Keep in mind this was day one of my mad shopping and I hadn't even stumbled upon those great deals on the clothing accessories... yet.

Okay, so with two html books plus one tucked under my arm I decide to just browse around. And of course, just as I 'm browsing my way out of the there (and being the visual person that I am) I see Pottery Barn Living Rooms. Now I love their designs so I immediately scooped that one up too. Had to have it. It was mine.

The first time I saw a PB room was on "Queer Eye (For the Straight Guy)" where the guys pottery barned some guy's whole place. I thought somewhere in the future my house will look like that. Their design is so simple and living in such a cluttered world that I come from, I guess I have to see simple somewhere, even if it is in a book. I'm posting links so you can at least view the the attractive covers.. alluring indeed.

Four books... and I guess this would maybe be considered a little less than tame.. and definitely not earth shattering for me ... but then when I went shopping the next day and saw the same PB book for ten dollars less... I wanted to scream! And I almost did until I saw Pottery Barn Bedrooms and figured hey I'm getting a good deal combining the two because instead of paying 48 dollars I only paid 38 overall so I saved 10 on the set.

What won't I do to convince myself that I am indeed sane? You know it's bad when you leave with four books instead of one...especially learning the next day you could have saved ten bucks, so you buy one more since it's way reduced. I think I liked my logic. But then the words.. bad girl.. came to mind.

Bad. Very bad for me. But it gets worse.. still. And tomorrow I get to the super ugly.

The Good, the Bad, and the Super Ugly

Okay so I've been known to live a little... Let's just say I lived a lot --over the weekend when I went shopping... dare I say twice. These are the results... the good, the bad, and the super ugly. I'm starting with the clothing items I purchased, which were all under five bucks and that turned out to be good. Now what can cover the body, any part of the body for less than five bucks? The answer is... almost out of season... but still useful... red tag accessories like...

  • a crocheted scarf

  • with matching hat

  • a second cute cap

  • and a floral umbrella (so parasol--ish that no girl with a french manicure could resist. ) Let me just justify this seemingly frivolous purchase for a second. Number one, I don't have an umbrella and even if I do, I can't find it. Two, I know it's the middle of winter... but if those darn groundhogs are right, then I am indeed being super duper prepared, and for once planning well ahead. No more procrastinating for me ... or is that prognosticating?
  • And yes all items totaled a little over twenty bucks (tax included).... but I figure that's the price of one as yet unworn shirt hanging around in my closet... with tags. I've so resolved to shop way less... so for me to dissuade myself from buying that foxy blue coat or the antique lamp... or talk myself out of the spa essentials is indeed very good.

One other item I bought was a book entitled Pottery Barn Bedrooms for $14.95. It was ten dollars below list price and believe me I've been known to pay a lot more than that for a book... but I'll save that little tidbit for tomorrow... in part 2 entitled "Bad Girl."

Let's Go Shopping with Jen!

Today I'm chronicling my shopping exploits... and I do mean exploits.... in my new category called Let's Go Shopping with Jen! I haven't posted in two days and s-h-o-p-p-i-n-g is why.
